Brinches and Beja Agricultural Cooperative

On July 1st 2008, in an historic cooperative movement in the Beja region, the Agricultural Cooperative of Beja and Brinches, C.R.L. was founded — a single entity that was immediately considered the largest in the country within the agricultural cooperative sector and its activity. This merger significantly strengthened its competitive position on the Iberian scale.

The fusion project resulted in highly significant gains not only for the Cooperative and its members but also for the agricultural sector of Baixo Alentejo, as both cooperatives complemented each other perfectly.

While the Agricultural Cooperative of Beja had a strong presence in the cereal sector, its counterpart in Brinches brought great dynamism to the field of olive growing and olive oil production — a sector with vast growth potential that has since become the main pillar of regional agriculture.

Moreover, the center of gravity of olive growing is being established in an arc stretching between Brinches, Serpa and Beja, where hundreds upon hundreds of hectares of new olive groves are now spreading. This area is set to become a zone of excellence for olive production in the coming decades.
